We recently caught up with MA Illustration students to talk about their MA Graduate show held in the Northlight Studios.

Here MA Illustration student and Technician Demonstrator, Jenni Saarenkyla discusses her work.

Can you tell us about your work?

For this project I wanted to focus on professional practice and working in the industry. To set myself smaller briefs I decided to take part in as many competitions as I could and working on live briefs with clients. The selection shown in the exhibition is all work from competitions, the Cheltenham Illustration Prize, the Batsford Prize and the London Transport Prize for Illustration.

How have you found studying on the course alongside working at AUB at the same time?

It’s been brilliant, tricky at times but I tried to balance the two. All in all the whole experience on the course has been so good. I never anticipated how much I would get out of it – my visual style and language has developed loads and I have learned different things which have been really beneficial.

What do you plan to do now?

I plan to keep in touch with my contacts in industry and send out my portfolio to the people I know. Then hopefully get in touch with some agencies to get some more work.
